White sandy beaches with rolling waves paralleled with lush green forests and beaten paths. Welcome to the beaches of Sopot.

Sopot is a small town in northern Poland, bordering the Baltic Sea. It is the heart of a Tri-City metropolitan area that includes neighboring cities: Gdansk and Gdynia. It is usually overlooked by travelers, favouring its sister cities due to their flashy shops and big hotels. In contrast, Sopot is very much a sailor’s town. Its best parts are found right where the land meets the sea which made this a booming place for fisherman back in the day. Today, though, it means that all the hot spots always have a breathtaking view. The best part of my trip was going to the beach every day. We would wake up and enjoy a breakfast that always included fresh picked local strawberries that really taste like strawberries should. We would then get ready for the day and proceed down the street towards the beach. We exited the beautiful quaint residential area to proceed into a small line of local shops. Along the way we could find Polish delicacies made by its residents including Paczki, Babka, and Kielbasa. We would then proceed down a set of stairs and be suddenly enveloped by trees. The thick, high treed forests that occupy most of northern Poland are allowed no exception here. The city has beautifully made paths and boardwalks through these forests that preserve its beautiful wildness without inhibiting transportation. Scattered along you can find open fields with playgrounds or ice cream shops and restaurants, but for the most part they remain untouched. Proceeding through the last bit of forest the land opens up to reveal a perfect sandy beach with sunbathers and swimmers scattered along. The warm waves of the Baltic Sea roll across and you and you cannot help but wonder how such a strange and beautiful place could exist and how such a hidden gem could go unnoticed.
